Ex-Honda Designer Joins Red Bull Team

Not all really stick to a team. Despite the fact that all members are really dedicated to their team, there will always come a time or an instance wherein one will be tempted to opt for another team.

Honda is a well known auto maker and racer (in the field of motorsport) as well. Like any other companies, it has experienced fluctuations in sales, profits, and losses. Other than that, it has also witnessed, though not really in the news, resignations of its staffs and employees.

One instance is the split up of Geoff Willis and Honda.

Former Honda technical director Geoff Willis joins the Red Bull team as it continues a recruitment drive intended at taking them to the top in Formula One.

The role will witness Willis work again for star designer Adrian Newey, Red Bull's design boss. And to recap, the two had great success with Williams in the 1990s.
The then Honda designer joins Red Bull as the technical director, reporting to Newey on design.

Willis decided to split with Honda last summer after Japanese Shuhei Nakamoto was promoted above him.

Red Bull said in a statement that their former technical director Mark Smith had been offered another "senior role" with the team; but the statement did not read whether he had accepted it or not.

It is the most recent in a series of high-profile technical appointments by Red Bull, which have tagged 2008 as the year in which they hope to make a serious impression at the front in F1 fans.

Newey and Willis formed one of F1's most successful partnerships at Williams. Their cars won four drivers' titles and five constructors' championships from 1992 to 1997.

Now Red Bull's chief technical officer, Newey then moved to McLaren, where he held another sustained period of success.

Willis had limited success at Honda, wherein he joined when they were called BAR-Honda in 2002. Unfortunately, the team has fallen off since his departure, and he is still well-regarded within F1.

We are talking about race here. And Honda, Red Bull and McLaren teams would not be able to achieve victory had it not also been for their vehicles' wheels. Vehicles cannot run without wheels. Honda wheels are just as important as any of your vehicle's other parts. So just in case the other two teams wish to shift to other tires, well, they the ones from Honda are among the options.
